For expatriates

Expat healthcare membership in Dubai

The first year in Dubai is when healthcare is most fragmented. You do not yet have a doctor, your records are in another country, your insurance is new, and the default is to visit whichever clinic is nearest when something goes wrong.

Setting up primary care in your first month

Choose one clinic to hold your record, rather than defaulting to whichever is nearest at the time. Bring or request a summary from your previous GP, including diagnoses, medications, allergies, vaccinations and recent results.

Ask specifically whether you will see the same doctor each time. In Dubai this is the exception, not the default, and it is the single factor that most affects the quality of your care over the following years.

Membership and insurance are different things

UAE law requires residents to hold health insurance. Membership is not insurance and does not replace it — it covers day-to-day primary care, not hospital admission, surgery, emergency treatment or most specialist care.

Most members keep insurance for those events and use membership for the care they actually use week to week: consultations, testing, monitoring and prevention.

Why British-trained matters to expatriate families

Aafiyah's GPs are British-trained and DHA-licensed, so consultations follow UK general-practice standards while being fully licensed for Dubai practice.

In practice that shows up in referral thresholds, how testing is justified and how decisions are made with you rather than for you — the differences expatriate families notice first.
