Buyer's guide · 6 min read

Choosing the best home doctor in Dubai.

We wrote the checklist we'd use ourselves if we were the patient — 9 things that separate a good home doctor from a fast dispatch service.

The 9-point checklist

  1. 01

DHA-licensed clinic, not a marketing agency

The service must be a licensed DHA clinic in its own right — check the licence number in the footer, not just a doctor's individual card. Aggregator apps are not clinics; they resell whoever is nearest.

  2. 02

    A named doctor, not a call-centre dispatch

You should know who is arriving before they knock. Ask for the doctor's name and qualifications when you book — a good service tells you unprompted.

  3. 03

British-, Irish-, or German-trained is the safe default

GMC-registered UK GPs and equivalents are trained specifically for community medicine — history-first, longer appointments, evidence-based prescribing. Consultant-only rotas often over-medicalise.

  4. 04

    60–90 minute arrival, published

'Same day' is meaningless; ask for the actual ETA window and whether it's a promise or a hope. Aafiyah publishes 60–90 minutes for central Dubai and 90–120 for outer communities.

  5. 05

The visit is 20–40 minutes, not five

You are paying premium prices for time. Anything under 20 minutes is a symptom-chase, not primary care.

  6. 06

A prescription pad and a stocked medical bag

The doctor should carry a DHA prescription pad, in-bag formulary of common drugs (antibiotics, antiemetics, painkillers, salbutamol, IV paracetamol, IV fluids), otoscope, oximeter, thermometer, urinalysis, and rapid tests.

  7. 07

The nurse can be added in 30 minutes

For IV fluids, IV antibiotics or blood sampling, a phlebotomy-trained nurse should be dispatchable to arrive within 30 minutes of the doctor asking.

  8. 08

A follow-up call the next day

Great primary care is not the visit; it's what happens after. Ask if a doctor will phone the next morning to check the patient is improving. Silence after payment is the biggest red flag.

  9. 09

    A published, itemised price

'From AED X' with no ceiling is a warning. A trustworthy clinic quotes the visit fee, night surcharge, medication delivery and any lab/IV extras before the doctor is dispatched.

FAQs

What makes a home doctor service in Dubai actually good?+

The best home doctor services in Dubai combine DHA-licensed clinical governance, British-trained GPs with 20–40 minute appointment time, sub-90-minute arrival, a properly stocked medical bag, next-day follow-up calls, and fully itemised published pricing. Everything else is marketing.

Is a home doctor visit as good as going to the clinic?+

For most acute primary care — fever, infection, gastroenteritis, UTI, migraine, back pain, unwell child, sick note — yes, and often better because the doctor sees the patient at rest in their own environment. For anything needing imaging (X-ray, CT, ultrasound beyond point-of-care) or specialist procedures, the clinic wins.

How much should a home doctor visit cost in Dubai?+

AED 500–900 in the day, AED 900–1,500 overnight, from a mainstream DHA-licensed provider. Below AED 500 is unusual and worth scrutinising; above AED 1,500 is concierge-level premium. See our transparent price list.

Are home doctors in Dubai covered by insurance?+

Most international policies (Cigna, Bupa Global, Allianz, AXA PPP) reimburse against a coded invoice. Some local UAE plans direct-bill; many do not. Always ask the clinic to check your policy before dispatch, and get a coded invoice — not a receipt.

What are the red flags when choosing a home doctor?+

No DHA licence number displayed. No named doctor at booking. Vague 'from AED X' pricing. No next-day follow-up. A visit shorter than 20 minutes. Same-day antibiotics without examination. A doctor who won't identify their base clinic. Any of these is enough to walk away.

Healthcare should feel simple.
