The problem with Dubai polyclinics — and what proper primary care looks like.
If you've ever seen four different doctors in a year, been handed a printout no-one explained, or been told "come back if it doesn't settle" with no plan attached — this page is for you.
What polyclinics do well
Polyclinics in Dubai are fast, cheap and almost everywhere. For a one-off antibiotic, a school medical, an insurance physical — they're fine. The economics of insurance reimbursement mean they have to run high-volume, short-slot, multi-doctor clinics. That's a feature, not a flaw, of that model.
What that model can't do
- Manage anything chronic well — diabetes, blood pressure, thyroid, mental health
- Hold a long-term view of your health and prevention
- Coordinate care between specialists, scans and bloods
- Give you a doctor who actually remembers you between visits
- Explain your results properly, in plain English
The Aafiyah alternative
One named, British-trained, GMC-registered GP for life. Consultations of 30–60 minutes. Same-day home visits or our Business Bay clinic. WhatsApp access to your doctor between visits. We do the chasing — you don't have to fight for results, referrals or follow-up.

FAQs
What's wrong with polyclinics in Dubai?+
Nothing — for a one-off cough. But the model is 7–10 minute insurance slots with whichever doctor is on shift. There's no continuity, results often go unexplained, and follow-up is on you. For anything ongoing it doesn't work.
How is Aafiyah different from a polyclinic?+
You're matched with one named British-trained GP. Consultations run 30–60 minutes. Your GP holds your full history, explains your results, and coordinates referrals and follow-up themselves.
Is it more expensive than a polyclinic?+
Per-visit yes (AED 400 in clinic, AED 500 at home). But fewer repeat visits, fewer unnecessary investigations and proper preventive care typically reduce the annual spend — especially for families and people with chronic conditions.
Do you take the same insurances as polyclinics?+
Most major insurers — Daman, AXA, Bupa, Cigna, Allianz and the international networks. We'll check coverage before you book.
Can I switch from my current polyclinic?+
Yes — we'll request your records (you own them under DHA rules) and your new named GP will spend the first visit going through your full history rather than starting from scratch.
