What CRP tells you
CRP is a protein made by the liver in response to inflammation. It rises within 6 hours of an insult and falls just as quickly once the cause is treated — which is why doctors reach for it before deciding whether an infection needs antibiotics, whether an autoimmune condition is active, or whether the fever you've had for three days is worth worrying about.

CRP vs hs-CRP
Standard CRP is used for infection and inflammation. High-sensitivity CRP (hs-CRP) measures very low levels and is used for cardiovascular risk stratification — a value above 3.0 mg/L in an otherwise well adult suggests elevated long-term heart-disease risk. Aafiyah offers both; the doctor will decide which one your question needs.
What you should NOT do
Don't self-interpret a single CRP number from a walk-in lab PDF. A CRP of 40 mg/L in a well-looking adult with a runny nose is meaningless; the same 40 in a shivering, tachycardic patient means IV antibiotics tonight. Context is everything — that's what the doctor call is for.

What is a CRP blood test and what does it show?+
CRP (C-reactive protein) is produced by the liver in response to inflammation. A raised CRP tells your doctor the body is fighting infection, trauma, autoimmune flare or (chronic low-grade) cardiovascular inflammation. It rises within 6 hours and falls fast once the cause is treated, which makes it one of the most useful bedside markers in Dubai's primary-care setting.
What is a normal CRP level in adults?+
Under 5 mg/L is normal for most labs in the UAE. 5–10 mg/L is mildly raised. 10–100 mg/L usually points to a bacterial or viral infection, moderate injury or autoimmune flare. Over 100 mg/L suggests a significant bacterial infection and warrants same-day clinical assessment.
How much does a CRP test cost in Dubai?+
At Aafiyah Care Clinic a standalone CRP is AED 120 in-clinic and AED 250 with a nurse home visit anywhere in Dubai. If we're already drawing a CBC, LFTs or U&E for you, CRP is added for AED 60.
Do I need to fast for a CRP test?+
No. CRP is not affected by recent meals, coffee or water. You can test at any time of day.
How fast are the results?+
Bedside rapid CRP: 5 minutes. Full lab CRP: 3–6 hours from sample collection. A doctor calls you the same day to explain what the number means in the context of your symptoms — not just a PDF.
When should I have a CRP test done?+
If you have unexplained fever lasting more than 48 hours, suspected chest, urinary or wound infection, unexplained joint pain, or before/after antibiotic treatment to confirm response. Also useful in Dubai's high-heat months for ruling out heat-related infection from viral fatigue.
Can a raised CRP mean cancer?+
Chronically raised CRP (usually >10 mg/L over weeks) with no obvious infection needs further work-up — full blood count, ESR, imaging and a specialist review. Cancer is one of several causes; autoimmune disease, chronic infection and heart disease are more common. Do not diagnose from a single number.
Do I need a doctor's request to book a CRP test?+
No. Any adult in Dubai can book a CRP at Aafiyah — we'll take the sample, and one of our DHA-licensed GPs will interpret and discuss the result with you the same day. If further tests or a prescription are needed, we arrange them at the same visit.
