Concierge medicine solves one problem: the doctor who sees you does not know you. Instead of billing per visit, a concierge practice caps its list and charges an annual fee, so the same clinician has the time and the incentive to follow your care through.
How concierge medicine works
You pay one annual fee to a practice that limits how many patients it takes. In return the practice can give longer appointments, keep one named doctor with you and answer directly rather than routing you through a call centre.
The trade is explicit. The practice earns less per consultation and more per relationship, which removes the quiet pressure to see you briefly and bring you back again.
What concierge care does not mean
It does not mean unlimited access to a doctor's personal phone at any hour, and it does not replace emergency medicine or health insurance. Aafiyah's clinic runs seven days a week from 09:00 to 18:00, with home visits scheduled around that.
It also does not mean every test you ask for is included. Testing is included when it is clinically justified — when the result would change your diagnosis, treatment or monitoring.
Who a concierge doctor suits
It suits people whose care is currently fragmented: several clinics, several doctors, no single record. It suits families who want one clinician across the household, and people managing long-term conditions that need consistent review.
It is poor value for someone who genuinely never sees a doctor and wants insurance-style cover for emergencies. That is what insurance is for, and membership does not replace it.
