Can a Doctor Come to My House for My Sick Child in Dubai?
A sick toddler at midnight is one of the worst feelings of parenthood. Here's how a home doctor visit for children works in Dubai, when to use it, and the red flags that mean hospital, not home.
When a home visit is the right call
Most childhood illnesses — fever, cough, cold, ear pain, sore throat, mild rash, vomiting that's keeping fluids down between episodes, suspected UTI, mild asthma flare, chickenpox or hand-foot-mouth review — are perfectly manageable at home with a doctor and parents working together. A home visit also avoids exposing your child (and others) to a waiting room full of other sick children.
Red flags — go to A&E or call 999
A floppy, drowsy or unrousable child. Difficulty breathing (fast, noisy, indrawing of ribs, blue lips). A non-blanching rash (one that doesn't fade when pressed with a clear glass). Repeated vomiting with inability to keep any fluid down for 6+ hours, especially in a baby under 1. A fever in a baby under 3 months. A seizure. Severe headache with neck stiffness or photophobia. Suspected swallowed object or poisoning. In any of these, hospital first — home visit later if appropriate.
What the visit looks like
Doctor arrives at your home, hotel or villa with a paediatric examination kit (otoscope, stethoscope, thermometer, pulse oximeter, basic urinalysis). Full examination of ears, throat, chest, abdomen, skin, neuro signs. Explanation in plain English to the parent. Written plan, medications prescribed and dispensed where possible, follow-up call the next day. Total time on site: usually 30–45 minutes.
Cost expectation
Aafiyah's paediatric home visit is from AED 750 (same as adult GP home visit), with after-hours visits quoted separately. Most premium family insurance plans reimburse. We direct-bill where possible.
Why British-trained paediatric care matters here
UK GP training includes a structured paediatric rotation and emphasises safety-netting — telling parents exactly what to watch for and when to seek urgent care. That cultural habit translates directly to safer at-home care for your child.
