Who should test
Anyone on statins, methotrexate, isotretinoin or long-term paracetamol; anyone with regular alcohol intake; anyone with obesity, type 2 diabetes or metabolic syndrome; anyone with fatigue, RUQ discomfort, jaundice or dark urine. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is now the most common liver condition in Dubai — annual screening from 40 is sensible in high-risk patients.
How we interpret
LFTs are pattern-based, not single-number. A raised ALT with normal ALP suggests hepatocellular injury (fatty liver, medication, viral). Raised ALP with normal ALT suggests biliary. GGT with either helps localise. We look at the whole picture and repeat before acting.

What does a liver function test measure?+
The standard LFT measures ALT and AST (hepatocyte enzymes), GGT and alkaline phosphatase (biliary enzymes), total and direct bilirubin, total protein and albumin. We add a hepatitis B and C screen for at-risk patients, and fibroscan or ultrasound referral if we see a pattern suggestive of fatty liver disease.
How much does an LFT cost in Dubai?+
Standard LFT AED 220 at the Business Bay clinic. LFT plus GGT plus hepatitis B and C surface antigen AED 480. Nurse home visit adds AED 250. Direct insurance billing with Daman, AXA, Bupa, Cigna, Allianz and MetLife.
Do I need to fast?+
Fasting isn't strictly required for LFTs but is recommended (8–12 hours) if we're combining with lipids, glucose or an executive check. Avoid alcohol for 48 hours — it transiently elevates GGT and can mask the underlying pattern.
How fast are results?+
Same-day for urgent cases (draw before 10am, results by 6pm). Standard turnaround is 24 hours. A senior GP calls you personally to interpret the pattern — LFT numbers need context, and we don't email bare figures.

What does a raised ALT mean?+
Most commonly non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), medication effect, alcohol, or occasionally viral hepatitis. Mild transient elevation is common and often resolves. Persistent elevation warrants ultrasound, hepatitis screen, autoimmune workup and sometimes fibroscan or referral.

Yes. DHA-licensed nurses visit any home, villa, apartment or hotel across Dubai. Sample is transported cold-chain to our accredited lab and the GP reviews within 24 hours.
