Low mood

Persistent low mood, loss of interest, poor sleep and appetite change may indicate depression, but can also be caused by thyroid disease, anaemia, vitamin D or B12 deficiency and hormonal changes. A GP consultation and small blood panel identify medical contributors and guide psychological and, where needed, medical treatment.

Frequently asked questions

Is low mood the same as depression?+

Not always — everyone has periods of low mood. Depression is diagnosed when low mood and loss of interest persist for more than two weeks and affect daily life. A GP uses a structured assessment to confirm.

Is my consultation confidential in Dubai?+

Yes — GP consultations are strictly confidential and can be conducted in clinic or at home.

Do I have to take medication?+

Not necessarily — many people improve with therapy and lifestyle change. Medication is considered for moderate–severe depression or when non-medication approaches are not enough.
