Blood tests for GLP-1 weight loss in Dubai — what we check and why.
The bloods are not optional. They're what turns a prescription into a treatment. Here's exactly what we check before starting GLP-1, what we repeat every three months, and why each marker matters.
The baseline panel — what and why
Kidney function (urea, creatinine, eGFR). GLP-1s are renally cleared; we need to know your starting point before dose titration.
Liver function (ALT, AST, GGT, bilirubin). Weight loss and fatty liver interact; we track LFTs to catch anything moving in the wrong direction.
HbA1c. Gives us a 3-month average of blood sugar — critical for anyone with insulin resistance, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes.
Lipid profile (total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides). Metabolic health isn't just weight; we track cardiovascular markers throughout.
Vitamin B12 and ferritin. Reduced appetite means reduced intake — these are the first to slide and the ones that show up as fatigue.
Thyroid (TSH, and free T4 if indicated). Undertreated hypothyroidism will sabotage any weight-loss plan; we rule it in or out at baseline.
The 3-month repeat
Every three months while on treatment we repeat kidney function, liver function, HbA1c, lipids, B12 and ferritin. This is not surveillance for its own sake — it's how your GP catches nutritional deficits, kidney signals or metabolic drift before they become symptoms.
If your provider hasn't run these in 90 days, you're being sold a prescription, not given treatment.
Home phlebotomy across Dubai
All bloods can be drawn at home by a DHA-licensed nurse — Marina, Downtown, Palm, Business Bay, Jumeirah, Dubai Hills, JVC, Arabian Ranches, JLT, Al Barsha, Mirdif and beyond. Or at our Business Bay clinic if that's more convenient. Samples processed by accredited labs; your GP reviews results within 24–48 hours and books your review.
