Rash

Most rashes are due to eczema, allergic reactions, viral illness, heat and sweat, or contact irritants and settle with simple treatment. A non-blanching purple rash (does not fade under pressure), a rash with facial or throat swelling, breathing difficulty, high fever or rapidly spreading redness needs emergency care.

When a routine GP appointment is fine

  • · Chronic eczema or psoriasis for review
  • · Recurrent hives

Questions a doctor may ask

  • · When did the rash start and where?
  • · Is it itchy, painful or numb?

When a specialist referral may be considered

  • · Dermatology for persistent or unclear rashes
  • · Immunology / allergy for suspected drug or food allergy
  • · Emergency for red-flag features

Possible treatment approaches

  • · Emollients and topical steroids for eczema
  • · Antihistamines for hives
  • · Antifungal cream for fungal infection
  • · Removal of causative agent for contact dermatitis

Safe self-care

  • · Regular emollient use in Dubai’s air-conditioned dryness

  • · Avoid known irritants
  • · Loose cotton clothing

Best avoided

  • · Multiple over-the-counter creams without a diagnosis

Frequently asked questions

When is a rash an emergency?+

A purple, non-blanching rash that does not fade under pressure — especially with fever, headache or drowsiness — is an emergency. So is any rash with facial or throat swelling, breathing difficulty, or blistering with mucosal involvement.

Why do I get heat rash in Dubai?+

Sweat trapped under blocked sweat ducts causes prickly heat, especially in humid summer months. Cool showers, loose cotton clothing and air-conditioned rest usually resolve it.

Can I get allergy testing in Dubai?+

Yes — we offer allergen-specific IgE blood testing at our clinic or at home across Dubai.
