First, the recovery check
Baby weight is the last thing to look at, not the first. Aafiyah's postpartum consultation covers thyroid (postpartum thyroiditis is common and missed), iron and ferritin, vitamin D, mood (postnatal depression screen), pelvic floor and diastasis recti. Fix the deficits — the weight follows.
Breastfeeding changes the plan. Adequate calories and hydration matter more than restriction. Weight comes off more gradually — that is physiological, not failure.
The Aafiyah postpartum pathway
Free 15-minute GP call — best timed 6–12 weeks postpartum onwards. Baseline bloods: TSH, free T4, TPO antibodies, ferritin, iron studies, vitamin D, B12, HbA1c, lipids. Mood and pelvic floor assessed.
Plan: nutrition matched to feeding status (adequate calories, high protein), gradual return to strength training, pelvic floor rehab where needed, iron/vitamin D replacement as needed. GLP-1 medication only considered once fully weaned and eligibility confirmed.
The honest answer on GLP-1 while breastfeeding
GLP-1 medications (Mounjaro, Wegovy, Ozempic, Saxenda) are not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding — safety data is insufficient. We do not prescribe them in either situation. Weaning is the trigger point for reconsideration, not a birthday.

When can I start losing weight after birth?+
Focus on recovery and feeding for the first 6–12 weeks. Structured weight loss usually starts from around 3 months postpartum, gradually.
Can I take Mounjaro while breastfeeding?+
No — GLP-1 medications are not recommended during breastfeeding. We wait until you have fully weaned.
I have diastasis — what should I do?+
Assessment first, then pelvic floor and core rehab with a physiotherapist. We coordinate referral.
Postpartum thyroiditis — is that common?+
Yes, up to 1 in 12 women. Often missed. We check TSH and TPO antibodies routinely postpartum.
