Kidney function testing in Dubai.
Urea, creatinine, eGFR and electrolytes — at our Business Bay clinic or at your home, with a senior GP explaining every result.
What we test, and when
- · Renal profile (U&E) — urea, creatinine, eGFR, sodium, potassium, chloride, bicarbonate
- · Cystatin C — more accurate eGFR in muscular or elderly patients
- · Urine ACR — detects microalbuminuria — the earliest sign of diabetic or hypertensive kidney damage
- · Home venous draw — DHA-licensed nurse anywhere in Dubai; results in 24 hours
Who should test
Anyone with diabetes, high blood pressure, a family history of kidney disease, on long-term NSAIDs, lithium or ACE inhibitors, over 50, or with symptoms like ankle swelling, fatigue or changes in urination. Given the UAE's diabetes prevalence, we recommend annual renal screening from age 40.
What we do with a borderline result
A single high creatinine rarely means kidney disease. We repeat in 2–4 weeks, add cystatin C and urine ACR, review medications and hydration, and refer to nephrology only if the pattern is consistent.
FAQs
What does a kidney function test in Dubai measure?+
The standard renal profile measures urea, creatinine, eGFR (estimated glomerular filtration rate), sodium, potassium, chloride and bicarbonate. We add cystatin C for more accurate eGFR in muscular or elderly patients, and urine albumin:creatinine ratio (ACR) to detect early kidney damage in diabetics and hypertensives.
How much does a kidney function test cost?+
Renal profile (U&E + eGFR) AED 220 in the Business Bay clinic. Expanded kidney panel with cystatin C and urine ACR AED 380. Home visit adds AED 250 for a DHA-licensed nurse. Insurance direct billing with Daman, AXA, Bupa, Cigna, Allianz and MetLife.
Do I need to fast for a kidney function test?+
No fasting required for the standard renal profile. If we're combining it with lipids, glucose or an executive check, we'll ask you to fast for 8–12 hours. Stay well hydrated in the 24 hours before — dehydration can transiently raise creatinine.
How quickly are results ready?+
Same-day for urgent cases (in by 10am, back by 6pm), otherwise standard turnaround is 24 hours. A senior GP calls you personally to explain the result and any action needed — we don't send bare numbers by email.
Who should have a kidney function test?+
Anyone with diabetes, high blood pressure, a family history of kidney disease, on long-term NSAIDs / lithium / ACE inhibitors, over age 50, or with symptoms like swelling, fatigue, or changes in urination. UAE has one of the world's highest diabetes rates — annual screening from age 40 is sensible.
What does a raised creatinine or low eGFR mean?+
It can mean reduced kidney function, dehydration, high muscle mass, or a transient effect from medication or intense exercise. A single result is rarely enough to diagnose — we repeat at 2–4 weeks, add cystatin C and urine ACR, and refer to nephrology if the picture is consistent.
Can I get a home kidney test in Dubai?+
Yes. A DHA-licensed nurse comes to your home, villa, apartment or hotel anywhere in Dubai — Marina, Palm, Downtown, Business Bay, JBR, Jumeirah, Dubai Hills, Arabian Ranches, Al Nahda, Dubai Creek Harbour. Draw takes 5 minutes; GP reviews the result within 24 hours.
