What Mounjaro is

Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injection developed by Eli Lilly. It's a dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonist — meaning it acts on two of the body's appetite-regulating hormones at once. Clinical trials show average weight loss of 15–22% of body weight over 72 weeks when paired with lifestyle support.

It's licensed in the UAE for adults with a BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnoea or fatty liver.

Who it's for (and who it isn't)

Mounjaro is appropriate for adults who meet the BMI criteria and have tried lifestyle change without lasting results. It's not appropriate in pregnancy, a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer, MEN-2 syndrome, or severe gastrointestinal disease.
