Screening is the real difference
A menu-first model asks what you want. A clinical model asks what you have, what you take and what your kidneys and heart can tolerate — then decides whether an infusion is appropriate at all.
Privacy, comfort and time
At home you are not sitting in a shared room, and the nurse's attention is not divided between chairs. For a 45-minute infusion, that matters more than the setting's décor.
What happens after the line comes out
In a lounge the episode usually ends when you leave. In a doctor-led model the observations, batch numbers and outcome go into your record, and a GP decides whether bloods should be rechecked or the plan changed.

Is IV therapy at home more expensive than a drip lounge?
Sometimes, because the nurse's travel and the GP screening are included. The comparison is not like for like — a screened, documented and followed-up infusion is a different service.
How long does an IV infusion take at home?
Most infusions run 30–60 minutes, plus a short observation period. Iron infusions can take longer depending on the preparation used.
Can I have IV therapy at home if I am on regular medication?
That is exactly what the GP screening is for. Some medications and cardiac or kidney conditions change what can be given safely, or rule an infusion out.
