Are IV Drips in Dubai Actually Worth It?
Dubai is awash with IV drip ads — Myers, NAD+, glutathione, "hangover cures". Here's the honest medical view of when a drip actually helps, and when you're paying for very expensive yellow water.
When IV therapy is genuinely useful
IV fluids and vitamins have clear medical value in: dehydration with vomiting or diarrhoea where oral intake isn't tolerated, severe migraine where IV magnesium and anti-emetics break the cycle, post-viral exhaustion where rapid rehydration and electrolyte correction help recovery, jet lag and heat-stress dehydration, documented vitamin deficiencies (Vit D loading dose, B12 in pernicious anaemia), and athletic recovery after extreme exertion.
When it's mostly placebo
For a well, well-hydrated person who eats and drinks normally, a Myers cocktail does very little your kidneys won't filter back out within hours. The "glow" most people report is real — but it's primarily rehydration plus the parasympathetic relaxation of lying still for 45 minutes with someone looking after you. That's worth something. Just don't pay AED 1,500 for it under the impression it's curing a deficiency you don't have.
NAD+ — the honest take
NAD+ IVs have promising early research in age-related metabolism, neurological recovery and addiction medicine, but the evidence base for routine wellness use is still thin. They're expensive (AED 1,500–3,000 per session in Dubai), often uncomfortable (slow infusion, flushing, nausea), and best done as a planned course under medical supervision — not as a one-off pick-me-up. We'll have the honest conversation before booking.
How to choose a safe IV provider in Dubai
Ask: is the drip prescribed by a DHA-licensed doctor (not just "approved" by a nurse manager)? Is the cannula placed by a registered nurse with current ALS training? What happens if you have an allergic reaction mid-drip? Is the clinic DHA-licensed for IV therapy? Are ingredients single-use, sealed and traceable?
Anything less is a cosmetic spa playing dress-up. We've treated more than a few patients in the aftermath.
