IV Drip Therapy in Dubai: When It Helps, When It's Hype

Hydration, hangover, vitamin and immune drips — what the evidence actually shows, who they help, and the safety checks that should never be skipped.

By Amar Adris · Published 12 May 2026 · Updated 1 June 2026

When IV therapy is genuinely the right call

Dehydration from food poisoning, gastroenteritis or heat exhaustion that isn't responding to oral fluids. Migraine that hasn't broken with oral medication. Post-marathon or post-illness recovery where oral intake is poor. Documented vitamin or iron deficiency where oral replacement is too slow. In these cases, IV genuinely shortens recovery — measured in hours, not days.

Where the evidence is weaker

'Glutathione for glow', 'NAD+ for longevity', 'Myers cocktail for everything' — the marketing is louder than the data. Most healthy people with a normal diet don't need IV vitamins. They make expensive urine, not better health. We'll tell you that to your face before charging you for it.

The hangover drip — what's actually happening

A hangover is mostly dehydration plus inflammation plus acetaldehyde. A bag of saline with anti-sickness medication and a B-complex shot does work — because the saline fixes the dehydration. The 'magic ingredient' is fluid volume. You'll feel meaningfully better in 45–60 minutes, but the effect is mechanical, not magical.

Safety checks that must happen before any drip

A doctor consultation, not just a nurse with a price list. BP, heart rate and oxygen saturation. A history check for heart failure, kidney disease, allergies and pregnancy. Aseptic cannulation with single-use equipment. A clinician present for the duration — not dropped off and left. These aren't optional.

What we offer and what we don't

We offer doctor-led IV hydration, anti-sickness drips, migraine protocols, iron infusions where indicated, and B12 / Vitamin D shots when bloodwork supports it. We don't sell 'beauty drips', 'detox drips' or anything that needs a marketing diagram instead of an indication. If it isn't going to help you, we'll say so.

Pricing in Dubai

Doctor-led hydration drip at home: roughly AED 800–1,300 depending on contents and location. Migraine and anti-sickness protocols: similar range. Iron infusions: higher, usually AED 1,500–2,500 depending on the iron preparation. Insurance covers medically indicated infusions; lifestyle drips are self-pay.

When IV therapy is clinically useful

Dehydration from gastroenteritis, hyperemesis, heat exhaustion or hangover; nutrient repletion after illness or surgery where oral intake is compromised; migraine cocktail therapy; jet lag recovery for severe symptoms; and peri-event support for endurance athletes. Used selectively, it's faster and more effective than oral routes in these scenarios.

When it's hype

Routine 'immune-boosting' drips in healthy adults with normal bloods. Weekly vitamin drips for fatigue with no underlying deficiency. NAD+ for anti-aging. 'Detox' drips for any indication. Most of these are commercially driven, not clinically driven — and oral supplementation guided by blood results is cheaper and equally effective for the underlying issue.

Safety and what we always do first

Every IV drip at Aafiyah is preceded by a doctor consultation — even at home. We check kidney and liver function before high-dose vitamin or glutathione protocols, review your medications, and adjust the protocol to your physiology. IV therapy run without a doctor present is not something we recommend in any setting.

Frequently asked

Is an IV drip safe at home in Dubai?

Yes — when delivered by a licensed doctor with proper monitoring, sterile equipment and a clinician present for the duration. Avoid services that send a nurse alone with a fixed menu and no doctor review.

How long does an IV drip take?

Most drips run 45–60 minutes. Iron infusions take 30 minutes to several hours depending on the preparation.

Does insurance cover IV therapy in Dubai?

Therapeutic indications (gastroenteritis, dehydration, hyperemesis) are often covered. Wellness drips are typically self-pay. We can confirm coverage with your insurer before booking.

How long does an IV drip take?

Most drips run for 30–60 minutes. Hangover and rehydration protocols are usually the faster end; high-dose vitamin and glutathione protocols the longer end.
