How to Choose a Home Nursing Provider in Dubai

Three different things are sold as 'home nursing' in Dubai

The first model is a doctor-led clinic that also visits at home: a licensed clinic employs the doctors and nurses, a GP writes the plan, and the nurse delivering it reports back into the same medical record.

The second is a pure nursing agency — competent nurses, but no doctor above them. Clinical decisions default to whoever referred you, or to nobody.

Checklist: what to verify before you book

1. Individual DHA practitioner licences for the nurse who will actually attend — not only a company facility licence. Ask for the licence number and check it on the DHA Sheryan portal.

2. A named doctor who authorises the care plan. Injections, catheter care, IV lines and wound management are prescribed acts, not services you should be able to add to a basket.

3. Continuity: will the same nurse return tomorrow? Ask directly. Rotating staff is the single biggest cause of missed deterioration in home care.

4. One record. Ask where the nurse's notes go and who reads them. If the answer is a WhatsApp group, walk away.

5. Escalation: who do you call at 3am, and is it a clinician or a coordinator?

6. Written, itemised pricing before the visit, and a DHA-coded invoice afterwards for insurance reimbursement.

Questions worth asking on the phone

'Which clinic are you dispatching from, and is the nurse employed by that clinic?' A doctor-led provider answers with one clinic name and address. A marketplace cannot.

'Who reviews the nurse's notes after the visit?' The right answer is a named GP, by name, the same day.

'If my mother deteriorates tonight, what happens?' The right answer is a doctor call and, if needed, a home visit — not a suggestion to attend an emergency department.

Red flags

Prices quoted without knowing the clinical task. Nursing time is not a commodity: a post-operative dressing change and a simple B12 injection are not the same visit.

No clinician on the phone before booking. Somebody clinical should triage you.

Refusal to name the reviewing doctor, or to provide licence numbers.

No written record left with the patient after the visit.
