Yes — a fasting period of 10-12 hours is required before a full lipid profile blood test. This means no food, juice, or milk — water and essential medications can be taken as normal. Morning appointments are ideal as your overnight fast can count toward the required fasting period.
What is a normal cholesterol level in Dubai?+
Desirable total cholesterol is below 5.0 mmol/L. LDL cholesterol should ideally be below 3.0 mmol/L for average-risk individuals and below 2.0 mmol/L for those with higher cardiovascular risk. Your British GP will interpret your levels in the context of your full risk profile — not just as a standalone number.
What is the difference between LDL and HDL cholesterol?+
LDL (low-density lipoprotein) is often called bad cholesterol because high levels contribute to arterial plaque buildup and cardiovascular disease risk. HDL (high-density lipoprotein) is protective cholesterol — it helps remove LDL from the arteries. A good cholesterol profile means low LDL and high HDL.
